Our social media presence
Data processing by social networks
We maintain publicly accessible profiles on social networks. The individual social networks we use are listed below.
Social networks such as Facebook, Google+ and others can generally analyse your user behaviour extensively when you visit their website or a website with embedded social media content, such as Like buttons or advertising banners. Visiting our social media pages triggers various processing operations relevant to data protection. In detail:
If you are logged into your social media account and visit our social media page, the social media platform operator can associate the visit with your user account. In some circumstances, your personal data may also be collected if you are not logged in or do not have an account with the relevant social media platform. In that case, data may be collected, for example, through cookies stored on your device or by recording your IP address.
Using the data collected in this way, social media platform operators can create user profiles recording your preferences and interests. This allows interest-based advertising to be shown to you both within and outside the relevant social media platform. If you have an account with that social network, interest-based advertising may be displayed on all devices on which you are or have been logged in.
Please also note that we cannot track all processing operations carried out on social media platforms. Depending on the provider, the operators may therefore carry out further processing operations. For details, please refer to the terms of use and privacy policies of the relevant social media platforms.
Legal basis
Our social media pages are intended to ensure as comprehensive an online presence as possible. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Analysis processes initiated by social networks may have different legal bases, which must be specified by their operators, for example consent within the meaning of Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Controller and exercise of rights
When you visit one of our social media pages, such as Facebook, we and the operator of the social media platform are jointly responsible for the data processing operations triggered by that visit. In principle, you can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and complaint both against us and against the operator of the relevant social media platform, such as Facebook.
Please note that, despite our joint responsibility with the social media platform operators, we do not have full influence over their data processing operations. Our options depend largely on the respective provider's company policies.
Retention period
Data collected directly by us through the social media page will be deleted from our systems when the purpose for storing it no longer applies, when you request deletion or when you withdraw your consent to storage. Stored cookies remain on your device until you delete them. Mandatory legal provisions, in particular retention periods, remain unaffected.
We have no influence over the retention period of data stored by social network operators for their own purposes. For details, please contact the social network operators directly, for example by consulting their privacy policies below.
